We’re down to the semi-finals at the World Squash Junior Team Championships!
Who will earn a shot at the title at White Oaks Resort, Niagara-on-the-Lake?
Play begins at 11:00 (GMT-4), with the string order set at 3-1-2.
All four ties will take place on the all-glass show court. You can watch the action live on WORLDSQUASH.TV, the Olympic Channel and select partner channels, or follow the results and see the standings on Tournament Software.
In the women’s event, it’s an Asian derby to kick things off, as No.2 seeds and last year’s runners up Hong Kong, China, face No.4 seeds Malaysia, who are hoping to reach the final for the sixth time.
The other women’s semi-final pits defending champions and No.1 seeds Egypt against No.3 seeds USA. Last year, led by generational talent Amina Orfi, team Egypt achieved a stunning tenth consecutive championship title. This year, their new-look squad will be doing everything in their power to keep that run going; a win over USA would represent Egypt’s 13th final in a row. USA, meanwhile, will hope to upset the odds to earn a fifth final appearance and a chance at a maiden title.
In the first tie of the men’s event, No.2 seeds USA take on No.5 seeds India, who upset the odds with a 2-1 win over No.3 seeds England yesterday. USA will be eager to continue their progress after finishing runners up last year in their maiden final appearance, while India will be hoping to shock higher seeded opponents once again to reach the final for the first time.
The second men’s semi-final sees defending champions and top seeds Egypt lock horns with No.4 seeds France. Egypt have made every final since 2004 and will back themselves to extend that run thanks to a team stacked with talent and led by reigning three-time World Junior Champion Mohamad Zakaria. France, meanwhile, are through to the semis for the first time in 26 years and will hope to score a stunning upset to reach the final for the first time.
