After an epic two weeks of squash, we’ve arrived at the 12th and final day of the World Squash Junior Championships as the team event concludes at White Oaks Club, Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Play begins at 13:00 (GMT-4) with the action available to watch live on WORLDSQUASH.TV , the Olympic Channel and other partner channels.
String order today is 1-3-2.
In the first final, Egypt’s women will be aiming for an 11th consecutive title, as they take on Malaysia.
Egypt, who claimed a silver and two bronze medals in the individual event last week, have steamrolled their way through the opposition so far in Canada. Of the 14 matches they’ve played across five ties, they haven’t dropped a single game, most recently swatting No.3 seeds USA aside in the semi-finals with convincing wins for Barb Sameh and Ruqayya Salem.
Malaysia, meanwhile, are appearing in the final for the sixth time, but hoping to upset the odds and secure a first ever title. The No.4 seeds have grown in form and confidence throughout the team event, culminating in a nerve-shredding victory over last year’s finalists and No.2 seeds Hong Kong, China, in yesterday’s semi-final.
The men’s final is a repeat of last year, when Egypt downed USA in Cairo to win the title for the eighth time, and the second in succession.
Egypt will likely look to call again upon Mohamad Zakaria – who last week became the first man to win the individual championships three times – and this year’s individual bronze medallist Marwan Assal, both of whom won their matches in the team final last year.
USA have come to Niagara-on-the-Lake with an entirely new team to the one which reached the final last year, a testimony to the growing influence of USA on the squash world. Will Yaseen Shalaby, Lars Gertsen, Brendan Taglairini and Aiden Chang be able to shock the holders and win US Squash their first title?
